DOMINIQUE VER EECKE / FALL 11

Dominique Ver Eecke does it again, he designs kids clothing that i would want in adult size! i always say this about two kid designers both Dominque and Misha LuLu. where else can you find such fun and whimsical kids clothing. in a sea of very simple and over the top "cutesy" kids clothes, it's refreshing to have designers such as Dominque Ver Eecke and Misha LuLu use bold eye catching and unique prints for kids. after all, which kid wouldn't like ducks, elephants, monkeys & kitty cats be used in a very cool non-cheesy way! i'm sure us mom's would be the ones appreciating this more. the garment silhouettes are not only chic, but look very comfortable to be in and very fun to wear.

My favorite in the bunch is the black & white star burst design dress and the a-line swan dress above. these are the times i wish these designers were around so i could of dressed Zoe in their darling clothes. oh well, now if they can only make it in my size!

Visit Dominque Ver Eecke website for the full fall 11 look-book photographed by Bieke Depoorter and past collections. you mama's out there will fall in love!

A WORK IN PROGRESS...

I did not want to lag behind on blog post since i've never been the most consistent person at blogging, but time management has not been my strongest suit. these two have been my encouragement these last few months since i've been working at home full-time. they are definitively the tool God uses in my life to forge full speed ahead. i am so thankful Zoe has been able to work for me as a model and Cody is there just to look cute and of course bring joy to our day! i can't ask for a better family...

Working on the consistency, i really do enjoy blogging as an creative  stir of ideas and outlet!

ITEM OF THE WEEK: MOD STYLE

1. vintage 1960's little black mod dress gisela&zoe the vintage shop

The 1960's is definitely one of my favorite era's for vintage. some of my most favorite designers came out of the era, Pierre Cardin, Ossie Clark, Mary Quant AND the list goes on and on. i could have definitely been born then and have been very happy fashion wise..

At least we can find some newer designed items influenced from then. House of Harlow glasses is getting it right at decent price points, and if i had a shoe budget of $200 a month, Jeffrey Campbell would be getting most of it!

HIGH WAISTED COMFORT

Hi there! it's been a while since i did an outfit post. since my poor camera's death i have been slowly started getting familiar with my new camera. as you can see i'm still trying to get the quality right. all the camera lingo like aperture and shutter can get very confusing and overwhelming for me. but eventually i'll get the pictures looking like i want them to.

Well summer has definitely hit southern California! and without A.C. in le car the most comfortable or least amount of clothing needs to be worn. in my case comfort is what i'm going for. i flipped when i scored these palazzo pants circa 90's for $1, score! they are high waisted just as i love my pants and very flowy and comfortable. tank's are the big must around these parts and this loose fitting vintage one was the perfect pairing. i layered some necklaces, pulled and slicked my hair back and was ready to face the heat wave. can't wait to cut my hair very short soon, it's going to feel so good!

bottoms: vintage 90's palazzo pants
top: vintage 70's slinky tank
shoes: western clogs, Vince Camuto
accessories: heart necklace, very old Target//vintage 70's medallion
necklace//faux onyx ring, F21

ROAD TRIP: DESERT SCENES

Check, now i can cross off my goal of doing a road trip with Zoe. it wasn't necessarily the one i wanted to take but regardless it was a mini one in which we always enjoy going to relax and hang with my mom aka Grandma.

I've driven this desert path probably a good 50 times, i feel like i can drive it blindfolded...not really but you know what i mean. when i lived on the west coast i never thought their was any beauty to the desert but it wasn't till i continued to visit my mom in Vegas that i realized how beautiful it really was. The red rock, the desert mountains, joshua trees, the vast landscape and the dry air. the desert holds a certain mysterious beauty that i sure can appreciate.

Zoe and i always enjoy this bonding times, although i'm sure my child would say she can go with out the strong beating sun. but we always play singing games (ones we've made up and have been playing since she was 5), point out weird / cool sightings and just enjoy the time together. we actually had a hiccup on the way having to replace a tire and although it can be annoying and frustrating, thank God it was nothing worse and it was just another notch in our memory book. we did get to witness lighting in the desert, now that was a breathtaking / scary sight; and saw two rainbows. the irony that nature can be.

The sun had no mercy on us, it's the desert's way and even little Cody was running for cover (i love the picture of his head in his kennel). i love all these road trips we've been able to take. i was intending for a road trip to Austin Texas or Portland Oregon, but there is always next year!

Fashion Flashback: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

It's been ages since i've done a movie post! i've been meaning to because i'm constantly scanning the costume design which serves as inspiration and flashback to that times trends. it's why i've changed the blog post to fashion flashback instead of movie night. not all the movie's Zoe and i watch on movie night have the best costume design

This weeks film is Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. two of the main characters in the film are a very young and still so very cute Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt whom i loved in her role; you could tell she was going to be a big actress one day. the movie has all the 80's cutesy cheese-ball ingredients, new wave fashion, the cute boy which the girl gets and all the very cool 80's dance moves.

The costume designing that stood out the most for me was Helen Hunts character. her style was very kwirky cool. two favorites  were the head pieces she wore, a plastic dinosaur head band and a cricket bill box hat

I also like the Catholic School Girl Uniform along with it's tie. we hated uniforms as kids, yet when you really take a look at the workmanship and details from vintage uniforms they were really beautifully made and fashionable. too bad they're not made as good today.

FAVORITE SUMMER SHOES

I have fallen in love with yet another Etsy store! this one is IKAHN out of brooklyn new york. they have 5 vintage shoes that i want bad and 3 out of the 5 are in my size. but momentarily they are out of my budget range, all i can do for now is admire them!

Great quality vintage shoes are so hard to come by, and all 5 of these are in amazing vintage condition. i will most definitely be doing a style board using these shoes this week. they are all so cute, my top favorite is pictured first below. i can envision all of these paired with pretty summer dresses, shorts and rompers?! the last ones are so geisha-ish and out there, it's why i like them..

SMITTEN: ELLE FANNING

I am completely smitten by this cute 14 years old style. i have a post on her that i never published thinking she was so young but now i look back and who cares i love her style. she has a love of vintage just as i had at her age, and if you read or have read her Interview Magazine interview she reveals that she really wears nothing but vintage and does not really care for the big label brands, as of yet. she mostly likes those with vintage flair like Mr. Marc Jacobs of course, he's the king of vintage flair! despite that she pulls off all the garments above beautifully, not looking older then what she is; which is something i love to see in young ladies. she's the same age as my Zoe and just like her she beats to her own drum, i appreciate that in a culture that is so hard on our teenage girls.

The Valentino dress above in left picture is amazing, drool! she also revealed her favorite vintage shop Play Clothes,  in Burbank. now i have a new place to go visit!
