BUILT BY WENDY SPRING 12

I've been a fan of Built By Wendy for about 10 years now. I not only love how simplistic yet modern her pieces are, but I admire her as an independent designer, who has been able to built quite a large following and a strong clothing brand. You should go over to her website and read her bio. It's been updated to be current, although I remember reading in her older bio about how she began by learning sewing and patterns from her grandmother. She then moved to New York in the early 90's and started making a few pieces along with guitar straps, which she sold in a rented spot in back of a record store. Pretty awesome beginning! Fast forward to today and she has two flagship stores in New York and still runs a very home grown independent fashion business.

This season she brings her trade mark simplistic bodies in pretty pastels as well as bright colors and lots of black. Nice little details like deep-v necklines and strategically placed pockets. I'm crushing over the floral sweater and skirt. And if I would be able to pull off that chambray jumpsuit piece, that would be mine too!

ORLA KIELY SPRING 12

Jeez, I can not get enough of Orla Kiely's beautiful collections every season. Always pretty designs in the best prints and the loveliest of fabrics, with that perfect dose of vintage inspired flare. This season's color's are easy on the eyes in soft cream, sorbet peach and mint green; just among a few of my favorite colors. It was really tough to pick my best-loved garments within an almost 60 piece collection!

The 1940s silhouette dress on the left is exquisite, such a flattering fit for all body types.

Favorite details: scalloped button opening on the smoky colored dress, the scalloped cream collar on the navy dress along with the button pocket trim on the waist.

Want, the perfect two-toned dress!

Sailor looks in my book never gets old! This gorgeous 1960's silhouette bathing suit has the most darling trims; perfect for the curves.

I have a similar cotton 1950's Pointelle Dress like the one on the left in the shop, except it's tea length! The dropped waist dress is in the most perfect length.

The black tent dress is perfectly off-set with the cream collar and in length, so it won't look like a maternity dress.

Pleats, pleats and more pleats, I love pleats. Button up collared pleated dress, yes please! Oooh, just remembered I have a similar dress in the shop, an Anne Klien Black Chiffon Pleated Dress with a star print.

The stove pipe pants are awesome, sometimes hard to pull off for us curvy girls, but I really like these!

Sigh, isn't everything pretty amazing? What are your favorites?

ALEJANDRA QUESADA

It's been a while since I last blogged about Alejandra Quesada and her amazing collections! Last blog post was way back in 2010 which you can see HERE. Although the most recent collection on her website is  her Autumn Winter 2010 / 2011, every piece here I would wear today! It was hard picking my favorites because I was so drawn to how beautifully whimsical her editorial was. It takes me back to child-hood fairy tails and the world of Alice in Wonderland. Boy, would I love to fall into that rabbit hole full of wonderfully, colorful, and richly detailed clothes. As always, her cultural roots shines through with the  use of embroidery, definitely an ode to her home country of Mexico. Her love of vintage is proudly displayed as well, with the cutest pinafore checkered dress and that lovely burgundy cape; not to mention the loop rick-rack on the plaid a-line dress, swoon! With her use of trims, my list of adoration for her details would go on and on.......

Can I just say amazing, did you see those tights! What are your favorites?

DOMINIQUE VER EECKE SPRING 12

Another gorgeous season of beautiful, photographic, eye popping prints in the world of Dominique Ver Eecke. Once again, he accomplishes to bring together fun prints in bold colors. The gradient black and white swan dress and the rich colored photo real dress are among my top favorites. If I were still a kid, I would be seen twirling in this pretty comfortable girly cut dresses. Since I'm no longer that, I will just have to continue to admire his work in children's fashion season after season!

THE COLORFUL WORLD OF TARA JARMON

It was seriously hard to keep my favorites from Tara Jarmon winter 2011 collection down to a minimum. I know I'm a bit late on the band wagon but I felt led to share my favorites in view of the fact that I'm totally smitten over her whole collection. She is a Parisian designer with an eye for color and a knack for making retro inspired designs just right! The little details are terrific, bows, shoulder buttons, pleated side waist on that gorgeous cream dress; in rich, lustrous, flowing fabrics and the perfect pair of high waist wool pants you can't wait to get your hands on. I can not wait to see what Spring 12 brings in Tara Jarmon's world....
