OUTFIT ON A BUDGET: 70's PSYCHEDELICS

Hello lovely blog readers. i have been trying to stay on top of running a tight ship this week. i am updating the shop this week with 25 new vintage pieces. Zoe has been doing a great job modeling for me these last few weeks. she has the best frame for showing off 70's pieces and 90's baby doll dresses. she's pretty easy to work with and i only see her getting better. i like that she got her start modeling with me, since she is seeking to do it professionally/fun.

This weeks outfit on a budget is a vintage 70's mini dress with a mandarin collar that was once a very long and big mumu!

I loved the print on it and hated to see it not go to good use. the fabric is a soft poly, not itching and stiff at all; so it was easy to convert it into a mini dress.

I cut about 20 inches of fabric off side note: d.i.y. of that extra fabric usage will be coming soon), at the time my serger was not working properly so i decided to fold and hem it with a zigzag stitch to give it a clean finish.

I paired it with dusty blue DKNY ribbed tights i found in the thrift store. just noticed in the picture how they are running down, oops. the swedish clogs are from MIA, and the grandma floral tapestry purse was a thrift find.

I would of posted a few close ups but they did not come out as good as i wanted them too.

the details are:

dress: vintage 70's mumu now new mini dress $1.99
tights: DKNY ribbed tights found new in thrift $1.99
shoes: MIA Swedish clogs bought on sale on endless.com $40.00
purse: vintage 70's grandma tapestry thrifted $1.00

grand total: $45

Zoe was looking mighty cute this day with her California laid back look. we had fun taking more pictures of each other.

MY LOVELY MOTHERSDAY

Hi all! to all you mom's and mom's to be, i hope you had a very blessed mothers-day with your kiddo's yesterday. i had a very good one with my beautiful Zoe. very low key just me and her hanging out, talking and enjoying each others company.

I have to say i always count my blessings on the relationship i have with her. she had saved all her allowance to take me out to eat brunch and i did not have to pay one cent or lift a finger. just writing this makes me all teary eyed, i have only but 5 more years until she goes to college. every fiber of my being just wants to hold on to her forever. but no, i am watching a lovely young lady growing and maturing right before my proud mommy eyes.

I thought it perfect to wear this pretty dress given to me by Karen for the first time yesterday on our little brunch date.

I paired it with my Vince Camuto western clogs. i'm also growing my bangs,  you can see them flying in the air. i am really trying real hard not to get scissor happy by chopping them off again. i do hate that growing in between stage with hair, but i want to cut my hair real short and am ready to put my bangs behind my ear; something i haven't done in 8 years! i'm going for a messy bob look in the summer.

Zoe took me to The Only Place in Town, one of our neighborhood restaurants. it was so good, i had the chicken brie sandwich with caramelized onions and she had their home made chicken ravioli. it was the perfect mothers-day brunch.

There was also an art festival in our town park with a blue grass band playing, we went to listen for a minute.

We then went to take some mothers-day 2011 memories. we are two silly gooses along with our little man we can't get enough, Cody.

Thanks Zoe for a great mothers-day! you are the best gift of ALL!

P.S. Karen is having a mothers-day give away over on the Misha LuLu blog. some really beautiful fabrics and trims, including Misha LuLu Spring 11 balloon print fabric! check it out HERE, deadline is this Wednesday!

WE'RE BAAAACK...

(Coconut Grove in Miami)

Hi all! Zoe and I are back from our trip to Miami. we just landed on Monday late night. we are currently trying to get back into the swing of things. that 3 hour time difference can sure mess with your internal clock, i can't imagine a European trip which has a 12 hour difference!

As you can see i did 0 blogging while away. it was way to hectic, i think i estimated my time there incorrectly. i always do that, i over book all my trips! this particular trip was not a pleasure one, we were visiting Zoe's uncle who's in the hospital. thankfully we enjoyed our time with family and getting to visit with him. i appreciate any prayers you can send his way for a full recovery! Zoe's already itching to get back soon, which will be in the summer. i always dread the 2 months without her, but that's how things go...

Since i've gotten my iphone i have been in love the instagram app. it's quickly replaced my camera! i think mostly because it's always on me, and it's so easy to share. i have to constantly remind myself to use my regular camera though, i don't want to miss out on taking my photos more professionally.

I'm going to bring back my week in pictures blog post which i know i've mentioned on doing before; but now that i am using my instagram app almost daily i think i can stay on top of doing this blog post weekly! you can view some past ones here & here.

I wish i would of taken allot more pictures then this, but here's a peek at our time there via instagram. i'm going to share more from my regular camera later!

The following are a constant eat in Miami, Cuban pastries and coffee with milk better known as Cafe Con Leche! Miami'ans fuel there! super cheap and super good.

My best friend Viv took me to have cupcakes at the cutest cupcake shop in Coral Gables, one of my favorite areas in town. cupcake shops have popped up everywhere, seriously! they served it with the coolest disposable wooden spoon.

Zoe's little brother Zak. they are piratically twins 9 years apart.

Viv's beautiful dog Gracie. miss her already (you to Viv!)

Zoe's sister basically, Viv's daughter. they've grown up together since birth!

I miss them already. overall it was a good trip, especially being able to be there for Zoe's uncle.

I'm preparing for a shop update today. hope your all having a great day!
