FLAPPER GIRL BLUES

Showing off yet another polyester printed shirt, but this one by far is my favorite! It was a gift from my freind Karen of Misha LuLu. It has a 1920's flapper girl repeat print. It's actually made of the softest polyester and is nice and snug to the body. Karen had mentioned I should wear it with a high-waist pants, exactly how I pictured it styled when I first saw it!

I found the rusted door pictured behind to be a accidental work of art. I always find myself looking at it every time i drive by. The rust gives it an amazing pop of color!

At times I regret tweaking certain vintage items, in this case it's the necklace I'm wearing. It was much longer, but at the time it did not appeal to me to wear it that long. Now, I sort of want to kick myself because it is a glass bead 1960's necklace; can't you just imagine it long? Oh well, you learn quick, I cut the necklace down 10 years ago, and taste sometimes change.

Do any of you still like printed polyester tops.....or I and Karen the only ones, haha?

TWEED & BLACK

Wouldn't you know it, the day I decide to wear this tweed coat the sun comes out! It's just like Southern California to have such unpredictable weather by mid-morning.

I like the slight a-line cut of the coat although it has more of a masculine feel; very mens wear inspired. It also has a pretty tonal weave of black and pink tweed.

The asymmetrical pockets are nice and deep just how I like my pockets to be; we wouldn't want anything falling out. I paired it with vintage high waist slacks and a plain slinky black button up shirt. I really like the simplicity of the overall underneath look for the reason that it all looks very chic and a very easy outfit to pull together.

I finished the look off with vintage 1980s black heeled oxford shoes and a big rounded ring. I would love to have worn bracelets but with tiny wrist such as mine it is very hard to find bracelets that fit.

I ♥ POLYESTER SHIRTS

I share a big love of vintage printed polyester shirts along with my friend Karen of Misha LuLu. I know very few people that care for them, so I don't feel too odd liking them as much as I do, being that my lovely creative friend loves them too! As of matter of fact, if you look to your right at my live photograph feed you can see the new one I have just acquired as a gift from Karen this Christmas. It has such a lovely 1920's flapper girl print in different hues of blue, and I just can't wait to wear it.

Most of these shirts are overlooked at the thrift, I assume because they are just to "poly" and/or "tacky". That's better for me, since I find them a dime a dozen for pretty much a $1.00. My eye is attracted to them because of the colors and retro toss print which I find quite charming, and have so since the age of 14 when I first began shopping for vintage at the thrift. Because of this I have built quite the collection and I suspect I'm gonna be that little old lady still sporting printed polyester shirts...

I drooled when I spotted these high-waist vintage Levi's, they are the perfect fit, and have that just perfect flared leg. High-waist is my ultimate favorite fit, especially now that I'm more curvier, which really flatters that body type.

MY PERUVIAN PONCHO

My mother just came back from our home country of Honduras. She brought me allot of goodies, some which you will see in our own web store once it launches hopefully by April. This particular poncho was meant for Zoe, but she is not much for vintage looking poncho's, so I snagged it for myself. Although my mother bought it in Honduras the poncho was actually crafted and brought over from Peru. Their are also street vendors from Guatemala selling the most amazing woven bags there (hint, hint web store).

Cultural clothing is one of my fashion favorites. I appreciate all the design, textiles and techniques which are unique to each culture. I also enjoy the history and story behind the clothing, as well as they way in which it is made. Honduras shares many similarities with the other Central American countries when comes to style of clothing. Most of these countries use similar design elements such as, woven yarns, cotton, natural dyes and laces; these design characteristics are indigenous to the culture. We are also known for our use of tooled leather. I especially love the fact that our culture uses rich vibrant colors and that most items are still hand crafted till this day. My very first upcoming line is very heavily influenced by these ethnic cultures.

Within the last week we have experienced a rise in temperature. Just when we thought it was getting colder it's actually gone the opposite way and it has warmed up allot. The poncho wearing was very temporary, but it's a nice added layer on chilly mornings; you can slip so easily out of it and throw it in your bag.

I also dug out some of my old costume jewelry which had gone forgotten for about a year. In there I found my precious rock necklace which was given to me by my grandmother when I was a teenager. At that time I did not care much for the necklace since I was rocking out vintage baby doll dresses and combat boots, but now it is just my style and it has allot of sentimental value attached to it.

Underneath I wore a grey heather tank top with my vintage high-waist Levi's and I tied it all together with a Mexican tooled leather belt. It was that hot, that I needed a tank top!

MOTHER DAUGHTER STYLE: DAY WEDDING

I love doing these post! It's been a while since we've done one And I've noticed some of my most popular post I no longer do, go figure! Reflecting, re-evaluating and goal writing for 2012 is my mission this week as the year ends and a new exciting year begins. It's been quite a journey this year, a few mistakes made along the way but what's even better is what I've learned from them, can I get an Amen! On the very top of the list though most importantly is how my faith and trust has strengthened in Christ, on a more personal note.

Well, in today's Mother Daughter outfits Zoe and I were heading to a lovely out door wedding. For the 3rd time in 2 years Zoe wore a dress...yes! The difference this time is that she actually bought this one herself and it is all her.

It's a pretty pale pink lace number from H&M. I thought she would naturally gravitate to the black one but to my surprise she picked this one. I loved not only seeing her in a dress but that she experimented a little and chose a new color for her closet. The color looks great on her and matched perfectly her personal trade mark style, her black low top chucks.

I wore and borrowed a vintage 1970's dress from the Shop seen HERE. It was going to get a bit chilly so I opted for the maxi look so I could wear black tights under! I paired it with what Zoe named my gorilla coat, a faux fur coat I bought at a thrift from F21; and my Vince Camuto platform western clogs to give me that extra height. I like how maxi dresses look with platform shoes because I like the look of how it hangs. Also, if it weren't for these shoes Zoe would surpass me in height!

I actually did accessorize this outfit quite well but forgot to put on all my bling for the shots. It gave it more of that complete Ashbury Street Bohemian look.

Overall, it was a beautiful wedding and Zoe and I enjoyed the opportunity of dressing up!

P.S., I've been having fun looking up tutorials on a whole lot of everything on youtube, thanks Stephanie! I have found a few tutorials on making pictures look vintage, there will be a learning curve until I find the look that is just right. We are also going to make some video's ourselves and have signed up for our own youtube channel, another exciting addition for 2012!
