INTO THE WOODS

Zoe and i never realized how much beauty was tucked behind us in the foothills and mountains literally up the street from us. i can never complain about living in the cutest quaint town i've ever come across in Los Angeles. you would never guess there was a town like this in the L.A. area. most people have no idea where Sierra Madre is, up near the San Gabriel Mountains by Pasadena. a town founded in the 1907 still holding on to most of it's antique buildings and mom and pop shops. i truly have fallen in love more with nature since our move here 3 years ago.

When we finally did the full trek into the mountains we discovered a literal dome like area made of trees; with one single swing in the middle hanging  from one of the old branches. very random, but Zoe ad a ball swinging there!

About a 1/2 mile down from there it dead ends into a small water fall. a perfect place to spend a day reading or sketching in such a peaceful atmospheric area. i will post some of our instagram pictures from our hike. i went instagram happy falling in love with everything in sight. you've might have seen the pictures already if you follow me on twitter..

I love this vintage Oscar de la Rente skirt. my favorite is the print details, the flowers and horses.

SPRING PLAID PASTELS: OUTFIT ON A BUDGET

Happy Monday y'all! i find myself missing Atlanta these days. for what ever reasons our time in Atlanta has been on my mind in the last week. in the almost 3 years that we lived there we were blessed with amazing friends and i am so yearning to go visit them!

This weekend in it self was a bit bitter-sweet. i was blessed with a ticket to Coachella and i ended up deciding to give up my ticket and sell it. as a single mama it's hard leaving my Zoe for three days especially just coming back from Miami and so very last minute! to the person who anonymously gave me the ticket Thank You for the gift! i admit i am puzzled on why and who it was from, as well as a little scared; but i'll just take it for what it is. it was a blessing regardless!

So needless to say it was hard seeing all the tweets from those folks who were  there. "this band this and that performance was amazing" type of talk, tear* it would of been great to see Arcade Fire for the first time as well as PJ Harvey and many others!

Well i am on the mission to start pulling things out of my closet which i have not worn in a long time. this one was a big hit the day i wore it getting lots of lovely compliments. the best part is that i found it in Waste Land Sunday side walk sale and bought it for a mere $1. not bad for a skirt that can go for much more!

  • skirt. vintage 70's plaid pastel skirt. waste land $1
  • top. h&m charcoal tank. $7
  • necklace. vintage 70's amber pendant gold necklace. $?
  • ring. gold antique over-sized ring. gift
  • shoes. vintage 80's Nine West western boots. $6
Grand total for outfit minus necklace: $14

I have pondered for a while on doing a "how much does an outfit cost" post (no pun intended with the photo above! kind of funny..), but i just never did do it. but now i'll give it a go since i basically raise my child on one income; i've always had to juggle a very strict budget for our little family. i want to encourage other mothers out there and just young ladies in general that you don't need allot of money to put a cute outfit together!

My friend Zoe does this very well too! check out her blog HERE!

Wishing you a great afternoon....gisela

WE'RE BAAAACK...

(Coconut Grove in Miami)

Hi all! Zoe and I are back from our trip to Miami. we just landed on Monday late night. we are currently trying to get back into the swing of things. that 3 hour time difference can sure mess with your internal clock, i can't imagine a European trip which has a 12 hour difference!

As you can see i did 0 blogging while away. it was way to hectic, i think i estimated my time there incorrectly. i always do that, i over book all my trips! this particular trip was not a pleasure one, we were visiting Zoe's uncle who's in the hospital. thankfully we enjoyed our time with family and getting to visit with him. i appreciate any prayers you can send his way for a full recovery! Zoe's already itching to get back soon, which will be in the summer. i always dread the 2 months without her, but that's how things go...

Since i've gotten my iphone i have been in love the instagram app. it's quickly replaced my camera! i think mostly because it's always on me, and it's so easy to share. i have to constantly remind myself to use my regular camera though, i don't want to miss out on taking my photos more professionally.

I'm going to bring back my week in pictures blog post which i know i've mentioned on doing before; but now that i am using my instagram app almost daily i think i can stay on top of doing this blog post weekly! you can view some past ones here & here.

I wish i would of taken allot more pictures then this, but here's a peek at our time there via instagram. i'm going to share more from my regular camera later!

The following are a constant eat in Miami, Cuban pastries and coffee with milk better known as Cafe Con Leche! Miami'ans fuel there! super cheap and super good.

My best friend Viv took me to have cupcakes at the cutest cupcake shop in Coral Gables, one of my favorite areas in town. cupcake shops have popped up everywhere, seriously! they served it with the coolest disposable wooden spoon.

Zoe's little brother Zak. they are piratically twins 9 years apart.

Viv's beautiful dog Gracie. miss her already (you to Viv!)

Zoe's sister basically, Viv's daughter. they've grown up together since birth!

I miss them already. overall it was a good trip, especially being able to be there for Zoe's uncle.

I'm preparing for a shop update today. hope your all having a great day!
